Key features of timber alternative windows

Timber alternative retains the look and feel of traditional timber, whilst benefitting from all the advantages of modern uPVC. Perfectly suited for period or traditionally styled homes, conservation area homes (where timber or conservation approved uPVC windows are installed), and graded properties (where timber has been installed), timber alternative windows transform any home to look as though they have traditional timber windows.

  • Timber alternative windows from truhouse. replicate traditional 17th century and 19th century timber windows through careful consideration to the documented historical window design and sizes from the period. The designs align to the key principles, shapes and dimensions from the Article 4 Conservation Area guidelines, and the traditional jointing and flush sash exterior both maintain the kerbside appearance.
  • Handcrafted and tailormade using only the finest materials, it is difficult to distinguish truhouse. timber alternative windows from authentic timber windows.
  • Because of its durability, timber alternative looks better for longer. It’s easy to clean and keeps the colour and doesn’t need repainting every few years, as with timber.
  • Timber alternative can be used for windows of any size and style – stormproof casement windowsflush casement windowssliding sash windowstilt and turn windows, or bay windows.
  • Residence collection (R7 and R9) timber alternative windows from truhouse have the best thermal properties that are achievable on the market.

Safety and security

In addition to frame composition and glazing, window safety and security is largely dependent upon the locking and hinge mechanisms fitted.

Whichever style you choose, all truhouse. timber alternative windows are composed of robust multichambered profiles and fitted with the latest high security multipoint locking mechanisms (shootbolt espagnolettes, bidirectional cams, roller cams, and shootbolt locks) that engage on three sides of the opening sash. Metal anti-jemmy hinge bolts are installed on the remaining side to prevent your hinges being forced open. With each side of the opening sash fully secured with the turn of a handle, our timber alternative windows ensure your home is protected against potential intruders.

High security fire escape hinges, also known as egress friction hinges, are fitted as standard, providing you with maximum clearance in the event you need to exit through your window in an emergency (dependent on window size).

Child safety hinges, known as tri-stay fire escape hinges, are also available on request, with a built in restrictor function to prevent children opening and falling out of windows (or even climbing in through open windows).
